James Gunn’s SUPERMAN Wows Warner Bros. Execs - "His Aim Is True"
James Gunn’s Superman reboot is shaping up to be exactly the kind of bold new start for DC that Warner Bros. was hoping for, and the studio has already seen enough to be excited.
According to studio heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, Gunn has delivered a version of Superman that hits the right emotional notes and tone for what’s intended to launch the next era of DC storytelling.
As De Luca put it during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast: "We've seen an early cut of Superman, and I don't want to bury the lede, there's a lot of marketing about to roll out ahead of its release, but he really understood the assignment."
That’s not a casual compliment—it’s a clear vote of confidence from the people steering the Warner Bros. ship. De Luca went on to say: "His heart's in the right place, his aim is true, and we're really excited about their new version of DC."
De Luca also reflected on Gunn’s filmmaking journey, saying: "I used to chase James [Gunn] as a producer when he did Slither and started with his low-budget movies. He's really unique and I think DC is in great hands with the two of them."
The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor.
It will be the first official film in the new DC Universe timeline, kicking off Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, a rollout that will eventually include five films and five shows, among them Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold, Clayface, Swamp Thing, and more.
Gunn’s take on Superman is meant to be a reset with heart, purpose, and, apparently, a strong grasp on what the character and the fans deserve.
And with marketing soon to ramp up, it’s safe to say the Man of Steel is about to soar back into the spotlight. Ready or not, the new DCU starts here.
