James Mangold Is Still in Negotiations With Lucasfilm to Nail Down Directing Gig for INDIANA JONES 5
James Mangold is a fantastic director, known for some great movies like Girl, Interrupted, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Logan, and Ford v Ferrari. About a month ago it was announced that Steven Spielberg would not be directing Indiana Jones 5, and that Mangold was in talks to replace him. That deal is still not done. It turns out that Mangold is still in negotiations with the studio to complete his directing deal.
The release date of the film recently moved from its original summer of 2021 to July 29, 2022, which pits the film against an untitled Marvel movie. But the new release date also gives the studio more time to lock down Mangold and get a solid script in place before it starts shooting.
The film was first announced in 2016, and the studio had hoped for a 2019 date, but rewrites were ordered multiple times, and then earlier this year Spielberg stepped down as director. It just seems like this movie was ill-fated from the start. And I have mostly heard negative response from the fans. But maybe, just maybe, they will be able to capture some fun Indiana Jones spirit for the masses to enjoy.
But they better iron out the deal with Mangold so they can get to work as soon as it’s safe to begin shooting again. Harrison Ford is a powerhouse, but he’s not getting any younger!
