James Mangold to Direct Timothee Chalamet in the Bob Dylan Biopic GOING ELECTRIC
Ford v Ferarri and Logan director James Mangold is set to direct the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic Going Electric. Timothee Chalamet (Little Woman, Dune) is attached to take on the role of Bob Dylan.
The film is set up at Fox Searchlight Pictures and will tell the story of Dylan, who “embraced rock n roll and traded his acoustic guitar for an amp and an electric guitar,” which “created a huge outcry.” But “it cemented the status of rock music.”
Dylan is also working on the film at a consultant with Mangold and the studio. There’s no information on if Chalamet will sing the songs himself like Taron Egerton did in Rocketman, or lip synch his way through it the way that Rami Malek did for Bohemian Rhapsody.
But, Deadline does say that Chalamet has already started taking guitar lessons so he can familiarize himself with the acoustic and electric guitar for when he starts shooting the film. As a fan of Dylan and his music, I hope this movie turns out good! There’s certainly a good chance of that with Mangold on board to helm.
