James Marsters Says He's Down To Return As Spike In The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot

James Marsters is well aware that the new version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer is a reboot, but that didn't stop him from offering to return as Spike anyway. The actor said that as long as Joss Whedon is involved, he's down to do just about anything to work with him again:

I am open to whatever Joss has in mind. Whether that’s playing Spike or something else, I told him a long time ago. Joss’s mind is always surprising so I’m open to playing Spike if Joss is involved.

New Buffy showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen heavily hinted this "reboot," is more of a sequel series, so it's very possible James Marsters could return as his iconic character. That said, there's kind of an issue that Spike is supposed to be an ageless vampire and...well..Marsters is not. Luckily, the actor is aware of this and had a solution along with his pitch for his official re-entry into the franchise:

I think we’d have to get some really good lighting together to sell Spike, but they are doing more and more and more, both with actor health and with special effects. What would be great is if he comes back and he’s like, ‘Buffy, you look terrible. I still love you of course.’ That would be fun.

I'm down for that, but really, I'm just down to see more Buffy The Vampire Slayer in general. Is there anyone hoping the new series incorporates the show's classic characters, or do you think this new series should try to stand on its own?
