James Wan Finds a New Director To Take on THE CONJURING 3

I was hoping that James Wan would come back to direct The Conjuring 3, but he’s stepping aside and has found someone else to helm the horror film.

According to THR, Wan has hired Michael Chaves to direct the movie. He recently directed the James Wan produced horror movie The Curse of La Llorona. The film is based on the real-life Latinx folklore of the ghost of a weeping woman who terrorizes as she attempts to take children.

Apparently, Chaves was discovered by Wan thanks to his award-winning horror short The Maiden. Wan had this to say about bringing Chaves on to direct the movie:

“While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker. Chaves’ ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film.”

Well, we’ll find out soon enough if Wan’s instincts are right on this one. Wan is said to remain closely involved with the film as a producer to keep things on track.

David Leslie Johnson, who worked on Conjuring 2 and Aquaman, is currently writing the script for Conjuring 3. There’s no plot details, but we know that it will once again focus on the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will reprise their roles. Wan added:

"I'm excited to be back as producer and continue with Vera and Patrick on the next supernatural adventure of the Warrens."

Chaves then had this to say in a statement:

“I am a huge fan of the Conjuring films. The movies are the rare combination that deliver both tremendous heart and awesome scares. It is both a total thrill and absolute honor to be working with James and the gang at New Line again.”

I’m a big fan of the Conjuring franchise and I can’t wait to see what terrifying story the filmmakers will tell this time.
