James Wan Is Developing a New Monster Movie for Universal Pictures with SUPERNATURAL Writer Robbie Thompson

James Wan is teaming up with Universal Pictures for a new untitled monster movie project. They’ve also hired Robbie Thompson, a longtime writer and co-exec producer on CW’s Supernatural, to write the script.

According to THR, “the story takes its cues from Universal’s classic monster legacy and shines it through a modern prism. With shades of Disturbia, the story will focus on a group of teens who discover that a neighbor is building a monster in his basement. Spoiler: the monster gets loose.”

Ok, that sounds like it could be a fun monster flick! Wan is only a producer on the project via his Atomic Monster banner. He will not direct, which is a shame, but hopefully he brings on a talented director with a creative vision to bring this story to life.

I’m sure the success of The Invisible Man will give the studio a boost of confidence to move forward with more of these kinds of monster films inspired by the classics.
