James Wan Put a Specific Easter Egg in AQUAMAN Just for Director Edgar Wright

Aquaman is loaded with all kinds of Easter eggs for the fans to look for. Most of them are comic book references or references to other DC films, but there is one other Easter egg in there that was added just for director Edgar Wright.

The Shaun of the Dead director personally offered director James Wan his Oscar if he would include a reference to the classic 1960s puppet TV show Stingray. Well, Wan included Stingray in the film and now Wright needs to follow through with his end of the deal. The funny thing is… Wright still has to win an Oscar for himself to give to Wan!

The Stingray reference is a brief but prominent one. It was placed in the scene early in the movie when Arthur Curry's future dad Tom has finds Atlanna outside the lighthouse. He brings her into his home and at one point the power goes out. Atlanna wakes up and throws Tom up against a wall and as the power returns there’s an aquatic-themed TV show playing on an old television. That shot is from the opening title sequence of Stingray. Atlanna then ends up throwing her trident through the TV screen. You can watch that Stingray opening sequence below.

It’s fun when directors have fun with each other like with these little inside jokes.
