James Wan Unveiled a Terrifying New Horror Film Called THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA and Here are the Details

Last night New Line Cinema revealed a new horror film that they are currently shooting called The Curse of La Llorona and today we've got some details to share with you for it. This movie seems like it will be absolutely terrifying!

La Llorona is based on the real-life Latinx folklore of the ghost of a weeping woman who terrorizes as she attempts to take children and scares the shit out of anyone who gets in her way.

The film comes from producer James Wan, and it stars Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Patricia Velasquez (The Mummy), Sean Patrick Thomas (Barbershop: Back in Business) and Raymond Cruz (Better Call Saul). The story is set in 1970s Los Angeles and Cardellini plays a widowed social worker raising her two kids. As she investigates a case, she starts to find similarities between it and a supernatural entity that is her own family.

This is the full synopsis for the film:

La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations.
In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain.
Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying.
In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children.
Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope to survive La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.
Beware of her chilling wail…she will stop at nothing to lure you into the gloom. Because there is no peace for her anguish. There is no mercy for her soul. And there is no escape from the curse of La Llorona.

The studio also shared a first look last night that is said to live up to "Wan’s knack for jump scares, tension and monstrous beings that stop at nothing to make everyone’s lives miserable by haunting them all the live long day."

The film was directed by Michael Chaves (Chase Champion) and was written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias IaconisThe Curse of La Llorona is set to hit theaters April 19, 2019.

It was revealed ahead of the San Diego Comi-Con that New Line Cinema and Atomic Monsters' The Children has officially been retitled to The Curse of La Llorana. It will be previewed next week as part of New Line's second annual ScareDiego.
