James Wan Wants To Remake CHOPPING MALL and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS in His Own Style

I love the horror films that director James Wan has made over the years. He’s one of my favorite horror movie directors working today in Hollywood. He tends to tell dark, and relentlessly nightmarish stories with films like Insidious, The Conjuring, and Malignant.

The filmmaker is now talking about the possibility of remaking a couple of classic horror films from the 80s! During a recent interview with /Film, he said that he would like to develop remakes of Night of the Creeps (1986) and Chopping Mall (1986), both of which are filled with campy humor. Wan said:

"I have many horror films that I think that are just fun that I love, and I'm pretty sure the horror community shares them with me. I love movies like Chopping Mall. I love Night of the Creeps. These, to me, are just sort of fun horror films that I would love to be able to dive into one day, or do them but with the way that I make my films."

Seeing Wan play with these movies in his own way and style could actually be a lot of fun! I haven’t seen either of these films since I was in high school, but they might be fun to revisit.

In Night of the Creeps, “After two fraternity pledges find a frozen body, they decide to use it to pull a prank which unleashes slug-like creatures upon the campus.”

In Chopping Mall, “Eight teenagers get trapped in a shopping centre after hours and three murderous security robots chase them.”

While it would be interesting to see Wan develop remakes like this, he should also continue to focus on telling original stories because Hollywood has been lacking a lot of that.

What do you think about Wan possibly remaking these 80s horror films one day?
