Jamie Bell Joins Andrew Garfield in Paul Greengrass’ Epic Historical Drama THE UPRISING

Paul Greengrass is gathering a powerhouse cast for his next big historical drama. The filmmaker has officially retitled his long-in-the-works peasant revolt project, once known as The Rage, to The Uprising, and it’s shaping up to be one of his more ambitious films.

Joining the rebellion are Jamie Bell (Half-Man), Cosmo Jarvis (Warfare), Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary), and Woody Norman (C’mon C’mon). Their roles are still being kept under wraps.

As previously announced, Andrew Garfield leads the film as the legendary figure who sparks a ferocious rebellion against the oppressive rule of King Richard II.

As England burns under the weight of tyranny, Garfield’s character rallies an army of common people in a desperate fight for justice and survival. Katherine Waterston is also on board, rounding out an already stacked ensemble.

Behind the scenes, Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse. Greengrass is moving into The Uprising fresh off the debut of his recent drama The Lost Bus, is now streaming on Apple TV.

Production on The Uprising is now underway, and given the scale, cast, and historical backdrop, this is shaping up to be an intense, character-driven epic that dives deep into the human cost of rebellion.

Fans of Greengrass’ kinetic storytelling style can expect something equally raw and emotional here with this new project.
