Jamie Dornan, Alec Baldwin, and Christian Slater Have Joined DR. DEATH Series Based on Hit Podcast and True Story

The star-studded cast is filling out for the upcoming Universal Content Productions series, Dr. Death. The series has not yet chosen a network or streaming service to call home, but I’m sure it won’t be long. Jamie Dornan (50 Shades of Grey, The Fall), Alec Baldwin (Beetlejuice, 30 Rock, SNL), and Christian Slater (True Romance, Mr. Robot) will star in the series based on a true story and riveting hit podcast by Wondery. Here’s the synopsis for the real-life events:

Dr. Death is based on the true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch (Dornan), a rising star in the Dallas medical community who was building a flourishing neurosurgery practice. But patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgeries were left permanently maimed or dead. As victims piled up, two fellow surgeons and a young Assistant District Attorney set out to stop him.

Variety reports the following character descriptions for Baldwin and Slater:

Baldwin will play neurosurgeon Robert Henderson. described as quiet, deliberative and methodical, Robert believes wholeheartedly both in the system in which he rose through the ranks and that anything worth doing shouldn’t be rushed. It should be gotten right.

Slater will play vascular surgeon Randall Kirby, who is described as brash, impulsive and more than willing to burn that system to the ground in the name of justice. Together, they form a duo who will constantly be at odds in terms of their personalities and their methods, but on the exact same page as it relates to their endgame.

This podcast has been on my list for a while. My sister says it’s a must-listen for murderinos such as ourselves. Wondery has previously teamed up with Bravo to adapt the podcast Dirty John into series, as well as Homecoming for Amazon, and the upcoming Over My Dead Body with Elizabeth Banks for HBO Max. The first seasons of Dirty John and Homecoming were both really good (Homecoming was better, in my opinion), and both are set for second seasons, with Dirty John moving over to USA.

Exciting news for us podcast listeners! Have you listened to Dr. Death? Are you excited for this adaptation with these actors on board?
