Jamie Foxx Is Heading Back Into Action With Amazon MGM’s DEADLOCKED
Jamie Foxx has lined up another action-packed project, and this one sounds like it's built for fans who love high-stakes thrillers set in a pressure cooker environment.
The Academy Award winner is set to lead Deadlocked, a new hostage action film that Amazon MGM Studios has picked up for worldwide distribution, with the movie heading straight to Prime Video.
The project also marks the latest feature from Nikhil Bhat, the filmmaker who turned plenty of heads with the brutal Hindi-language action thriller Kill. If you've seen that film, you already know Bhat has a knack for delivering intense, hard-hitting action, which makes him an exciting choice to take on this story.
Deadlocked centers on a grieving former Marine who is simply trying to fulfill his civic duty by serving on a jury. That routine day takes a violent turn when what's being called the trial of the century erupts into chaos.
The defendant's daughter storms the courthouse, takes everyone hostage, and launches a desperate mission to free her father. Forced back into the kind of life he thought he'd left behind, Foxx's character has to rely on his military training to survive and protect everyone trapped inside.
The movie is sure to deliver relentless tension, with the confined courthouse setting offering plenty of opportunities for explosive action and suspense.
The screenplay comes from Eric Scot Anderson (The Black Fox) and Matt Takejiro Bosack (NCIS: Hawai'i), who developed the story from their original idea.
Foxx has been on quite a run lately. Earlier this year he starred alongside Cameron Diaz in Back in Action, which became Netflix's biggest English-language movie debut since 2022 after pulling in 46.8 million views during its opening weekend.
He's also returning to Netflix for the upcoming Olympic boxing drama Fight for '84, inspired by a true story. Outside of film, Foxx continues to executive produce and host Beat Shazam for Fox.
As for Bhat, Kill proved to be a breakout moment in his career. After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film landed at Lionsgate in a mid-seven-figure acquisition before receiving a wide theatrical release in 2024.
Between Foxx leading the cast, Bhat calling the shots, and a premise that drops audiences into a courthouse under siege, Deadlocked has all the ingredients for a tense, crowd-pleasing action thriller. It'll be interesting to see what this creative team delivers when the film eventually arrives on Prime Video.
