Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman Are Set to Star in Kay Scarpetta Series for Amazon Studios
Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) and Nicole Kidman (The Northman) are joining forces for a new series based on the wildly popular Kay Scarpetta novels, which is set up at Amazon Studios.
Variety reports that Kidman will take on the role of chief medical examiner, Kay Scarpetta, while Curtis plays her sister, Dorothy. The series is also said to be looking at a two-season order with each season featuring eight episodes.
The mastermind behind this crime mystery series is Liz Sarnoff, who will not only write the series but also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Curtis will also produce through Comet Pictures along with Blumhouse Television’s Jason Blum.
This series is based on Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta series of crime novels, which have been thrilling readers since the first book, Postmortem, was released in 1990. And with 26 novels in the series as of 2023 and the latest installment, Livid, just released last year, there's no shortage of material for this dynamic duo to work with.
Curtis previously said: “Patricia Cornwell is a bonafide literary trailblazer, and collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an entirely new audience is exciting. The confluence of Blumhouse and Comet bringing to life a dark, fun and layered work world and family life, spearheaded by the smart and sexy indomitable Kay Scarpetta is going to be a thrilling ride.”
Cornwell said of the project: “I’ve had the honor and pleasure of knowing Jamie for a number of years, and have come to respect her hugely as an artist and a stellar human being. Blumhouse is a creative force of nature, and I’m confident that Scarpetta is going to make it to the screen in a fantastic way. To say I’m thrilled is an understatement, and I have no doubt my readers will feel the same.”
