Jamie Lee Curtis’ MURDER ,SHE WROTE Movie Taps PITCH PERFECT Director Jason Moore

Universal is officially moving forward with its big screen take on Murder, She Wrote, and the project has now locked in a director. Jamie Lee Curtis is set to step into the world made famous by Angela Lansbury, with Jason Moore signing on to direct the film adaptation of the classic mystery series.

Moore is best known for launching the successful Pitch Perfect franchise, which kicked off nearly 15 years ago and went on to earn close to $600 million worldwide while keeping budgets under control.

Moore followed that success with feature films like Sisters, starring Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Maya Rudolph, and Shotgun Wedding, led by Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel.

The Murder, She Wrote screenplay comes from Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who were previously announced as writers on the project. Producing duties are being handled by Amy Pascal along with Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

The original Emmy Award-winning Murder, She Wrote series was produced by Universal Television and ran from 1984 through 1996. Created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson, and William Link, the show turned Jessica Fletcher into an icon of television mystery storytelling.

Bringing that legacy back under the same studio banner gives this adaptation a strong sense of continuity, even as it moves in a new direction with Curtis taking the lead.

Murder, She Wrote could end up being a fun modern mystery with the classic DNA from the original series.
