Japan Is Cracking Down on Pirated Manga
Japan is trying to crack down on manga piracy. CB reports that Japan’s Agency of Cultural Affairs is looking at ways to keep people from downloading illegally scanned manga with plans to go into effect in 2019. The current proposal would give any offenders two years in prison or a fine of almost $18,000. The Agency is also hoping to ban manga sharing sites and leech sites that collect links to pirated manga. I honestly don’t find any fault with Japan wanting to take down manga piracy. After all, Japan’s Content Overseas Distribution Association reported that “piracy wrought nearly $3.8 billion from copyright holders in 2017 alone.” That’s a lot of money.
