Japan is Getting an Awesome Life-Sized Godzilla Theme Park Attraction
As a long time fan of Godzilla, I would love to see a life-sized version of the King of the Monsters! Well, a full-sized head and upper body of Godzilla is coming to the Nijigen no More amusement park on Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture.
The size of the attraction is called “Godzilla Interception Operation – National Godzilla Awajishima Research Center,” and it will be around 120 meters long (about 400 feet long). It’s described as “the world’s first attraction using life-size Godzilla.” It will be an interactive experience where “park visitors will take on the role of researchers and enter Godzilla’s mouth via a zip line. Included in their missions is shooting Godzilla’s cells.”
Keiji Ota, Chief Godzilla Officer of Toho Co, told Kyodo News that the attraction will have a “huge presence and tremendous impact.” As you can see, the design is based on the version of the monster in Shin Godzilla, which was a great movie with an awesome creature design!
As for why Godzilla is frozen while bursting up through the ground, here’s an explanation that was given thanks to Google translate:
When Godzilla was guided to Nijigen no Mori, Godzilla’s movement was sealed with an explosive that had been put into the ground, and a missile loaded with the drug was shot into its mouth, Godzilla stopped working.
Currently, it is under the supervision of the National Godzilla Awajishima Research Center, but Godzilla has only stopped its activities and is not sure when it will start moving. Your power is needed to monitor the behavior.
You can see some concept art and miniature mock-ups of the attraction below. I also included a viral video to go along with the announcement. According to IT Media (via Kotaku), the attraction is set to open in the summer of 2020. I’ve been trying to get to Japan, maybe I’ll wait until next summer so that I can check this out!
