Japanese Trailer for THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU Is Packed with Cool Classic Star Wars Energy
A Japanese teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu just arrived, and it hits all the right notes for fans who have been waiting to see Star Wars shine on the big screen again. This new look leans straight into nostalgia by opening with the iconic Star Wars theme, then quickly ramps into high-energy action that sets the stage for Din Djarin and Grogu’s return to theaters next year.
Disney and Lucasfilm are gearing up for a major cinematic comeback. After becoming one of Disney+’s biggest success stories since its 2019 launch, The Mandalorian is now stepping into theaters for its first feature film.
The newly released Japanese trailer offers a stylish, exciting and full of promise for what’s ahead in summer 2026. Another exclusive cut of the teaser is already playing before Zootopia 2 in theaters, although that version hasn’t been released online yet.
With Avengers: Doomsday expected to dominate trailer spots attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash, there’s still a good chance Lucasfilm will push out another The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer before the end of the year to ride the wave of one of 2025’s biggest films.
Director Jon Favreau previously teased what’s next for Din Djarin, explaining that "The Mandalorian has changed his priorities. One of the last things we say [in Season 3] is, like, 'I don’t want to go out there and just be a hired gun. I want to work for the good guys.'
“Now we get to really have fun with him. He’s such a compelling character, even if you’ve never seen Rebels, between the voice, the swagger, and the physical ability."
Favreau also offered insight into the heart of the movie and the emotional core between Din and Grogu. "That central relationship, as they go off and face adventure together, that’s the underpinning of the film, Star Wars is always about progression and growth and characters evolving, sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. It’s about apprenticeship, it’s about one generation teaching the next. There’s more growth that happens over the course of the film."
The Mandalorian and Grogu picks up in the aftermath of the Empire’s collapse. Imperial remnants are scattered across the galaxy while the New Republic struggles to secure the future the Rebellion fought so hard to achieve. With threats rising, the Republic turns to legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin and his loyal apprentice Grogu for help on a mission that promises some of their most thrilling challenges yet.
Along with Favreau in the director’s chair, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce. Composer Ludwig Göransson returns to the saga as well, bringing his distinctive musical voice back to the world he helped shape in the series.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is filmed for IMAX and opens exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.
