Jar Jar Binks' Depressing Fate Revealed in the New STAR WARS Canon
Jar Jar Binks is one of the most loathed characters in the Star Wars universe. Today we've learned what his fate is in the new canon, and it's pretty depressing. Even if you hate Jar Jar, you might actually feel a little sorry for him.
After the events of The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar became an interim Galactic Senator in Attack of the Clones and pushed the War Powers Act, which weakened the Republic and helped create the Empire. Yeah, that was obviously a huge mistake, and it wasn't something that was missed by the people.
In the new Star Wars book Aftermath: Empire's End, we have details on the sad fate of Jar Jar. In the book, he resides on the planet of Naboo... in exile... as a clown. Here's an excerpt from the book (thanks to Mashable) that highlights Jar Jar's sad fate:
A refugee boy named Mapo encounters a Gungan performing for kids on the streets, clowning around in a fountain twice a day while being studiously avoided by the grown-ups. "Meesa Jar Jar," says the clown when Mapo introduces himself. The clown distracts the orphan from his own sadness by popping his eyes and bulging his cheeks, but is hiding a sadness of his own. "Jar Jar makin some uh-oh mistakens," the Gungan says, explaining why he isn't wanted anywhere either. "Desa hisen Naboo tink I help the uh-oh Empire." He stares into the distance, suggesting he knows more than he's saying.
Jar Jar went from a happy-go-lucky guy with hope and optimism to being ostracized and hated. Becoming a clown was the only way that he could cope with his existence and survive the miserable life that he now has. Actions have consequences. Maybe he shouldn't have backed the wrong horse.
Do you feel sorry for where Jar Jar ended up or do you think he got what he deserved?
