Jar Jar Binks Finally Gets His Shot at Redemption in a New STAR WARS Comic by Ahmed Best

The Star Wars galaxy is packed with legendary heroes and villains. Many of these characters are burned into pop culture forever. But not every character has enjoyed that kind of universal love.

Few names spark as much debate among fans as Jar Jar Binks. First introduced in the prequel trilogy, the Gungan quickly became one of the most divisive figures in the franchise. Now, decades later, Star Wars is giving him a real chance at redemption.

Marvel Comics is launching Star Wars: Jar Jar, a new series that finally answers the long-standing question of what happened to Jar Jar after the prequel era. The story digs into the fallout from his most infamous decision and connects him directly to the early foundations of the Rebel Alliance.

The series is co-written by Ahmed Best, the actor who brought Jar Jar to life on screen. Best is joined by Marc Guggenheim, with art by Kieran McKeown, and together they’re steering the character into unexplored territory. Jar Jar won’t be alone as He’s teaming up with Kelleran Beq, a Jedi Knight also portrayed by Best, who fans first met in Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge and later saw in The Mandalorian.

The last meaningful time fans saw Jar Jar in the films was during Attack of the Clones, when he delivered the Senate speech that granted Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers. That decision directly paved the way for Palpatine’s rise as Emperor, an event whose consequences echo through nearly every corner of Star Wars storytelling.

Outside of a few brief appearances in Revenge of the Sith, Jar Jar’s fate was left largely untouched. This comic finally picks up that thread.

Early preview images don’t give away too much, but they show Jar Jar and Kelleran Beq crossing paths under tense circumstances. Beq clearly represents a sense of familiarity and trust for Jar Jar, though things escalate fast as danger finds them.

The story also looks set to flesh out Kelleran Beq even more, which should be exciting for fans who’ve wanted to see more of the character since his live-action debut.

It’s also pretty cool that Best being involved at this stage. After The Phantom Menace, he faced intense backlash that took a serious emotional toll. Over the years, fan perspectives on Jar Jar have softened, with many reassessing both the character and Best’s performance.

Seeing Jar Jar confront the consequences of his actions and step into a more purposeful role feels like a long-overdue evolution, both for the character and for the actor who portrayed him.

Marvel’s official description reads: “Jar Jar Returns — Co-Written By Jar Jar Himself, Ahmed Best! Jar Jar faces the consequences of giving emergency powers to Chancellor Palpatine. What pivotal role does Jar Jar play in the formation of the Rebel Alliance? Guest-starring fan-favorite Jedi Knight Kelleran Beq!”

Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 hits comic shops on February 11th. Love him or hate him, Jar Jar Binks is stepping back into the spotlight, and this time, his story might finally land where it always should’ve.
