Jared Leto Is Set to Play the Hatbox Ghost in Disney's HAUNTED MANSION Movie
Yesterday we learned that Halloween franchise star Jamie Lee Curtis has joined the cast of Disney’s new live-action Haunted Mansion movie. She will take on the role of Madame Leota, the disembodied head of a psychic that lives inside of a crystal ball.
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that news, and they also revealed that Jared Leto has been cast in the film as well, and he will be taking on the role of the fan-favorite Hatbox Ghost character.
The movie is being directed by Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair), and it also stars LaKeith Stanfield (Knives Out), Tiffany Haddish (Bad Trip), Owen Wilson (Loki), Danny DeVito (Jumanji: The Next Level), Rosario Dawson (Zombieland: Double Tap), and Chase Dillon (The Underground Railroad).
In this mysterious adventure,” a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish) and a crotchety historian (DeVito).”
The Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite rides at Disneyland. It’s just fun, and there are so many ghostly stories told in it with all of the characters that fill the ride. It will be interesting to see how this film handles the stories of these classic characters.
It’s not hard to imagine Leto in the role of the Hatbox Ghost, but when Guillermo del Toro was developing the film all those years ago, he was going to have Doug Jones plays the character. That would have been more interesting.
Haunted Mansion will be released in theaters on March 10, 2023.
