Jared Leto May Replace Will Smith in BRILLIANCE

Jared Leto is in talks to replace Will Smith in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Brilliance. Leto just met with director Julius Onah, so things are still early, but if he signs on he will join Noomi Rapace onscreen. Smith dropped out of the project to take the lead in the untitled Ridley Scott-produced NFL concussion movie.

David Koepp wrote the script, which is an adaptation of the novel of the same name, written by Marcus Sakey. Here is a plot description of the book:

“They’re called 'brilliants,' and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.”

I am assuming that he will play the federal agent and Rapace will take on the role of the terrorist, but since one of the roles will have to be gender-flipped either way, it could be the opposite. Since his glorious locks are kind of the antithesis of the stereotypical G-man, I think he’d make a better terrorist. Brilliance is the first book in a planned trilogy, the second of which, A Better World, was released today.
