Jared Leto’s Joker Will Reportedly Surpass Heath Ledger's Portrayal

We’ve seen what Jared Leto’s Joker will look like in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and it seems like fans either love it or hate it. I’ve seen more complaints than praise, though. What I’m looking forward to most is seeing how exactly the actor will play the villain in the movie.

According to Umberto Gonzalez, a.k.a. El Mayimbe, Leto’s performance could surpass what Heath Ledger did in The Dark Knight. That’s really hard to believe, but this is what’s being reported:

“Sources are telling me that Jared Leto is going all out for his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad & that he is staying in character behind the scenes on set. I'm also told his performance will rival if not surpass Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker.”

Ledger won an Academy Award for Best Supporting actor for his portrayal of the villain. So the question is can Leto deliver a performance that is award-worthy? He’s an Academy Award winner himself, and I have no doubt that he’s going to give an insane performance. But can he really give fans something better than what Ledger gave?

We’ve previously heard reports that Leto wanted to “make the character completely his own." It was said that "he knows that this role may be his most difficult ever, but he is confident that he will make his version of the Joker the best." His Joker was then described as being "more cerebral and comedic than what we have seen before."

Even though I’m interested in seeing how Leto makes this character his own, I’m even more interested in seeing what the reaction of the fans will be. Do you think he can actually surpass Ledger’s performance?
