Jason Bateman to Direct Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell in Netflix Film THE CACKLING OF THE DODOS
Jason Bateman has signed on to direct a new film for Netflix titled The Cackling of the Dodos, which will star Woody Harrelson (Now You See Me, Zombieland) and Sam Rockwell (Galaxy Quest, Matchstick Men). The pic puts Netflix back in business with Bateman, the EP/star of Ozark and Black Rabbit.
The story, based on an original screenplay by novelist Rye Curtis (Kingdomtide), follows George, small-town farmer who has a truly terrible day when he discovers a corpse chilling out in a grain bin and he is unwittingly forced into a chaotic, sloppy cover-up by his boss, Denny.
Rockwell won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and his recent credits also include Argylle, See How They Run, The Bad Guys animated franchise and Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Harrelson is a three-time Oscar nominee for Three Billboards (Best Supporting Actor), The Messenger (Best Supporting Actor) and The People vs. Larry Flynt (Best Actor). The Emmy-winning Cheers alum recent films also include Ella McCay, Now You See Me: Now You Dont, Last Breath and Fly Me to the Moon.
Bateman received an Actor Award nomination from SAG-AFTRA for his work in Black Rabbit. In addition, he played the villain in the 2024 airport security thriller Carry-On, which spent eight weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 list. Ozark received 45 Emmy nominations over its four-season run.
