Blumhouse is currently producing a reboot of the classic 1973 horror film The Exorcist. The last we heard, Halloween director David Gordon Green was in talks to direct the movie. I’m not really sure what to expect from this movie. Some people are saying it’s a reboot, some are saying it’s a remake, but when it was initially reported, it was said to be a sequel.

In a recently interview with Den of Geek, producer Jason Blum opened up about the project and shared a little bit about what we can expect. He said:

“[It’s] going to be like David [Gordon Green]’s Halloween sequel. I think it’s going to pleasantly surprise all the skeptics out there. We had a lot of skeptics about Halloween and David turned them around, and I think he’s going to turn it around with The Exorcist.”

So, like Halloween, this Exorcist movie will be both a sequel and a fresh reboot. He went on to say:

“I want to make a movie that works for both [audiences]. I want to make a movie for people that know and love the first Exorcist and are furious that we’re doing this, but somehow drag themselves to the theater. I want them to come out happy. And I want to make a movie that people who’ve never heard of The Exorcist really enjoy. I think David did that with Halloween. I think he’ll do that with The Exorcist also.”

I’m totally fine with the sequel concept. That doesn’t make me furious, but had it been a hard remake… that would have pissed me off. I remember seeing The Exorcist for the first time as a pre-teen… it scared the living shit out of me! I remember being so terrified my body was shaking. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that kind of fear during a movie since.

What do you think about what they are looking to do with The Exorcist sequel?
