Jason Blum Wants to Reboot SCREAM and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
Producer Jason Blum is looking to tap into the 90s horror movie scene for some fresh reboots. Blumhouse has delivered some pretty great horror films over the years and with their most recent project, Halloween, shaping up to be a big hit, they are looking at other popular horror film franchises to resurrect.
During an interview with Forbes, Blum confirmed that he is looking to produce reboots of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. One thing that they’d have to figure out before they do that though is figure out the rights situation. He says:
"I'd like to do that, yeah. would like to do both of them, but it's a rights situation with all those movies. It's very tangled and very complicated. It's one thing to say you want to do them and it's a whole other thing to get to actually do it. To give you some idea, Halloween was in the works with us for four or five years before it evolved, so, there are business obstacles to cross but, in theory, if you said to me, 'Would you like to do a Scream movie?' My answer would be, 'Of course.' Sadly it doesn't work like that."
So, if Blum and his legal team can figure out the rights situation one day then I guess we’ll see a reboot of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. In the meantime, maybe they can put some focus on more original horror film content that we can enjoy.
Personally, I could care less if we ever see a reboot of either of these franchises. Of course, if they do end up getting made, I’ll probably watch them.
Would you like to see Jason Blum resurrect Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer? Are there any other horror film properties you feel should be rebooted?
