Jason David Frank’s LEGEND OF THE WHITE DRAGON Moves One Step Closer to Release
The long-awaited release of Legend of the White Dragon is finally within reach. A major update from Executive Producer Chris Jay confirms that the film is now picture-locked, marking a big milestone in its journey to completion.
With only color correction and sound mixing left to finalize, the film is inching closer to the finish line, one that the late Jason David Frank was deeply passionate about crossing.
In a recent Facebook post, Jay shared the good news with fans, explaining that the project has reached a point where no further changes or additions will be made.
The remaining work, including color correction and sound mixing (such as 7.1 Surround), is now in the hands of third-party specialists. That process is expected to take around three months, after which discussions with potential distributors can officially begin.
If all goes according to plan, the film should be fully completed by June, at which point a release date should become clearer.
Jay also put out a call for Legend of the White Dragon’s Kickstarter backers to update their addresses in preparation for the eventual physical release. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, stating:
“Hey Everyone, Great news… LOTWD is now officially picture locked!! This means that we have a final and complete version of the film, that will not receive any further adjustments, additions or changes.
“The remaining touches for color correction and sound mixing (like 7.1 Surround) now lie with the third parties we are working with. In short, we are at the final stages of preparation for release (whether that’s theatrical or home theatre).
“This final process should take around three months, during which we will continue to bring you updates. Having discussed it with our professional contacts, we need the color correction and sound mixing to be completed prior to talking to potential distributors.
“We will ask Kickstarters to update their addresses for the physical release when we are closer to the release date. Thanks again for all the positive comments recently – as always your patience is greatly appreciated. Chris Jay. Executive Producer – LOTWD”
While the exact distribution plan is still being determined, an official press release confirmed that the team is aiming for a theatrical release. Legend of the White Dragon represents the culmination of Jason David Frank’s vision, which the filmmakers have been committed to preserving in his honor.
“When Jason David Frank tragically took his own life late last year, it became the filmmaker’s mission to honor his legacy by completing the film the way Frank envisioned it,” the press release states.
“Frank was a beloved actor who still has a great emotional impact on fans around the world. He was a world-renowned and acclaimed martial artist, who brought the same passion to his performances on the screen. In this film, Jason David Frank plays Erik Reed, a complex character that really allowed him to showcase his incredible range as an actor.”
Filmmaker and co-star Aaron Schoenke also reflected on Frank’s dedication to the project:
“We are proud to have worked with such a talented actor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share his final performance with the world. Having been on this journey with Jason for 10 years, I know he would be beyond excited to know that Legend of the White Dragon will be opening in theaters.”
In the film, Frank takes on the role of Erik Reed, “a disgraced hero who goes into exile following a horrific event known as The Aftermath, which left a city destroyed. Blamed for the catastrophe, the city's protectors were stripped of their titles and hunted.”
After being a fugitive on the run for three years, “the White Dragon has returned to the city he fought to protect. He must now clear his name and save the family he keeps in secret before the mysterious Dragon Prime unleashes his own revenge on the White Dragon."
Legend of the White Dragon also stars Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3), King Bach (Walking Dead, Greenland), Michael Madsen (Kill Bill 1 & 2, Sin City), David Ramsey (Arrow, The Flash), Aaron Schoenke, Jason Faunt, Rachel Brooke Smith, Ciara Hanna, Kevin Porter, Mayling Ng, Cerina Vincent and Jenna Rae Frank.
With the final touches underway, Legend of the White Dragon is poised to bring Jason David Frank’s final performance to audiences the way he intended. Stay tuned for more updates as the film nears its long-awaited release.
