Jason Momoa Exits Justin Lin-Directed Sony PlayStation Film HELLDIVERS Based on Video Game

It’s been revealed that Jason Momoa (A Minecraft Movie, Supergirl) is departing PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures’ film adaptation of Helldivers, based on Arrowhead Game Studios’ video game franchise, from director Justin Lin.

The reason for his departure is unknown. The project is still very much alive, and Sony is currently searching for a new star.

Helldivers is a cooperative, twin-stick shooter game that debuted in 2015. As part of the elite unit called the Helldivers, players must work together to protect Super Earth and defeat the enemies of mankind in an intense intergalactic war.

In Helldivers 2, gamers step into the boots of the Helldivers, an elite class of soldiers whose mission is to spread peace, liberty and Managed Democracy using the biggest, baddest and most explosive tools in the galaxy.

The sequel sold more than 12 million units across PlayStation 5 and PC in the first four months after its 2024 launch. The game recently expanded to Xbox and continues to perform.

Details regarding the plot of the film are under wraps. Helldivers is expected to hit theaters on November 10, 2027.
