Jason Momoa Promises, "There's No One Better to Play Blanka" in STREET FIGHTER Movie

The upcoming Street Fighter movie hasn’t even released a single frame of footage yet, and it already feels like a knockout. The cast director Kitao Sakurai has assembled is filled with talent, and it will be interesting to see how he bring this classic Capcom fighting game to life.

So far, the lineup includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, WWE superstars Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes stepping in as Akuma and Guile, 50 Cent taking on Balrog (and already transforming for the role), and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. And now, former Aquaman and soon-to-be Lobo himself, Jason Momoa, has officially entered the arena as the electrifying Brazilian beast, Blanka.

Blanka first appeared in Street Fighter II back in 1991, a green-skinned powerhouse who curled into a ball, launched across the screen, and shocked enemies with his signature electric attack.

Just the thought of Momoa going full beast mode in that role is enough to get fans hyped, and the actor isn’t holding back his excitement either. While promoting Chief of War with The Playlist, Momoa made it clear he was born for the part.

“There’s no one better to play Blanka, so that’s why I’m doing it. We’ll do what the audience would like to see — practical, CG — we’re gonna do our best. The cast is insane. My son and I play it; it’s the only game I played.”

It’s going to be wild to see how Mamoa brings this character to life. Luckily, we’ve entered a new era where adaptations like Sonic the Hedgehog, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Last of Us, and Fallout have proven that gaming properties can thrive.

Street Fighter punches into theaters on October 16, 2026, and if Momoa’s confidence is any indication, fans are in for something pretty wild.
