Jason Sudeikis Bringing His Character Ted Lasso to Apple TV+ in New Comedy Series
Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jason Sudeikis is bringing a character from his sketch comedy days to TV with a new series at Apple TV+. The streamer has ordered Ted Lasso, a comedy that Sudeikis will star in as well as write and executive produce. Variety describes the series as follows:
In the series, Sudeikis plays Lasso, an idealistic all-American football coach hired to manage an English football club despite having no soccer coaching experience at all.
While this is a character he established while working as a cast member on the late night show, it was actually utilized on “an NBC Sports video in 2013 to help promote the fact that NBC Sports would begin broadcasting English Premier League games. It proved so successful that NBC brought the character back the following year to serve as an analyst.”
