Jason Voorhees Is Coming Back in “Unexpected Ways” New FRIDAY THE 13TH Movie Confirmed
The legend of Jason Voorhees refuses to die and that’s exactly how horror fans like it. The hockey-masked killer from the Friday the 13th franchise is officially making a comeback with a brand-new film, which just happens to be the thirteenth installment in the iconic slasher franchise. But according to producer Robert Barsamian, that’s only the beginning.
In a recent interview with SFX magazine, Barsamian revealed that Jason’s story is far from over:
“We are actively working on a new movie – which will be the 13th in the franchise – as well as a new videogame. Jason Voorhees will return in other unexpected ways.”
That is sure to get horror fans wildly speculating. Could this mean a new TV series, animated project, or even a crossover event? Whatever it is, it sounds like Friday the 13th is about to slash its way into a whole new era.
On top of that, Horror, Inc. is giving Jason a terrifying new look. Chief Marketing Officer Sheri Conn told SFX that the character’s iconic mask has been redesigned for this next chapter.
“Jason's had a number of looks across each of the 12 films. So we wanted to pull inspiration from a few of the most iconic.
We reimagined the eyes on his mask to make Jason look even more menacing and paid homage to the franchise with the 13 holes in the mask.
The new design will be used across the board, with some slight differences in interpretation to fit the specific context of each project.”
As for continuity and where this new movie fits in the timeline, Barsamian kept things mysterious. “We're exploring a variety of opportunities, but consistently staying focused on authenticity,” he said. That could mean anything from a straight sequel to a reimagining, or something entirely different.
It’s been sixteen years since the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot starring Jared Padalecki, and some fans have been hungry for another blood-soaked trip to Camp Crystal Lake ever since.
Between the upcoming film, the new video game, and Peacock’s prequel series Crystal Lake, which will explore the origins of Jason and his mother Pamela, the franchise is finally rising from the grave in a big way.
Jason already returned for an official short film titled Sweet Revenge, which you can watch here. This is just a little taste of what’s to come.
