Javier Bardem in Talks to Play King Triton in Disney's Live Action THE LITTLE MERMAID

This is an outrage! Javier Bardem is up for the role of King freaking Triton in Disney’s upcoming live-action Little Mermaid movie. I know the character was a bit of a hardass in the beginning of the cartoon, but he ends up being a cool dad at the end and lets his teenaged daughter become a human to marry her boyfriend of a week because “she loves him.” And no one has ever looked at Javier Bardem and thought lovable father figure. He’s terrifying. I am not down for this.

Rob Marshall is directing the film, and Halle Bailey is set to play Ariel, with Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder. Harry Styles is also currently in talks to play Prince Eric, and I am not mad at that possibility at all.

Do you think Bardem would be a good King Triton, or a scary weirdo? Who do you think would be better? My fingers are crossed for the Terry Crews rumors to come true!
