The Wrap reports that Friday Night Lights star Jay Hernandez has joined the cast of David Ayer's upcoming supervillain movie Suicide Squad, although exactly who he'll be playing is still unclear. Their report states that "it’s possible that he could be playing an inmate on the same cell block as The Joker," but that seems speculative at best.
Hernandez has been in a wide array of films including The Rookie, Torque, Hostel (and Hostel: Part II), and Quarantine - among others - but I've always found him to be a solid presence on screen. Here's hoping he's given a role that allows him to make a big impression and hopefully move up to bigger and better things. If nothing else, it should be cool for him to appear in a such a star-heavy cast opposite Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Jared Leto as the Joker. Viola Davis still seems to be in negotiations to play Amanda Waller, and rumor has it that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will show up in some capacity.
Are you looking forward to Suicide Squad?
