Jay Hernandez is No Tom Selleck, But He's Set To Star in The MAGNUM P.I. Series Reboot

CBS has found their star for the Magnum P.I. series reboot that they've been developing. Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad, Bright) will take on the role of Thomas Magnum, who was played by Tom Selleck in the original series. Hernandez is no Selleck, but we'll see how this ends up.

In the series, Thomas Magnum is a "decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator."

I enjoyed the original series and Tom Selleck was great in it. Hernandez has some big shoes to fill. The series is being developed by Peter Lenkov, who is the writer and producer behind current CBS reboots of Hawaii Five-O and MacGyverEric Guggenheim, an executive producer and writer on Hawaii Five-O, will also write and executive produce.

I never got into the Hawaii Five-O reboot. I watched the first few episodes but it just never grabbed me. I imagine that will be the result with Magnum P.I. seeing that it's coming from the same creative team. However, Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond, Fast and Furious) will direct the pilot, so we'll see how it goes.

What do you think about Jay Hernandez taking on the lead role of Magnum P.I.?
