JEEPERS CREEPERS May Be Based On An Episode of UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

Thanks to this video by Marko Polo, I may have trouble sleeping tonight. Turns out there is strong evidence to support the idea that the movie Jeepers Creepers was based on a true murder that happened in Michigan in 1991. If you believe the video, the film is based on the story of Dennis Depue, who murdered his wife Mary and then fled the state. The event was covered by Unsolved Mysteries and Depue was caught the night the episode aired after his girlfriend and friends reported him to authorities. Depue ended up committing suicide in his car after the pursuit came to a halt.

What makes the stories similar is the way the killers were discovered, which involves investigating an abandoned building. Why the hell anyone would do that in real life is beyond me, but I guess it had a happy ending in Depue getting caught so all's well that ends well.
