Jeff Bridges' THE GIVER Has a Release Date

According to Box Office Mojo, The Weinstein Company has set the release date for Jeff Bridges' big screen adaptation of The Giver for August 15th, 2014.

The film is based on the classic book written by Lois Lowry, and the story is set in a "colorless dystopian society that enforces Sameness and fears freedom. All memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist, and citizens' professions are chosen for them."

Brenton Thwaites is playing the main character Jonas, the "community's Receiver of Memories who spends his days being mentored by the Giver (Bridges), who teaches him to confront and understand the lies that inform society. As Jonas comes to grips with living an unsheltered existence, he begins to acquire a taste for freedom and honesty, becoming an outcast in the process."

Meryl Streep is playing the community's Chief Elder, who maintains order in the seemingly utopian society. Alexander Skarsgard is playing Jonas' father, and Cameron Monaghan will play Jonas' best friend, Asher.

I'm looking forward to this movie, and I'm hoping the book gets the great film adaptation it deserves.
