Jeff Daniels and a GAME OF THRONES Alum Confirmed For Netflix Western Series GODLESS
I'm very excited to see the upcoming Netflix western show Godless, which hails from exec producer Steven Soderbergh and producer/writer/director Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Minority Report, The Wolverine, The Lookout) and now THR has some confirmation of new cast members for us.
Jeff Daniels has been confirmed to play the show's villain, an outlaw named Frank Griffin who's ravaging the west as he and his gang hunt down his protege-turned-nemesis Roy Goode (Jack O'Connell from Unbroken). Roy takes shelter at a ranch outside of La Belle, New Mexico, a town made up exclusively of women after all of the men died in a mining accident. Daniels was recently rumored alongside Scoot McNairy, but the latter hasn't been confirmed for a role (yet).
There are a few other casting bits, too. Merritt Wever ([pictured] Nurse Jackie, The Walking Dead) will play Mary Agnes, the "brash widow" of the town's late mayor, while Game of Thrones alum Thomas Brodie-Sangster ([pictured] who played greenseer Jojen Reed) will play Whitey Winn, the town deputy: "Devoted to both books and the sheriff and afraid of no one, but still a boy more than a man, he has a lot to learn." Jeremy Bobb (The Knick) rounds out this batch of casting as A.T. Grigg, "the editor of the Santa Fe Dailey Review who has been obsessed for years with writing about the Griffin Gang."
After seeing Daniels as principled news anchor Will McAvoy on The Newsroom, I'm looking forward to watching him terrorize the Old West in this show.
