Jeff Goldblum Was Almost Cast in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER! It's a Good Thing it Didn't Happen!
When Marvel Studios was in early development of their Cinematic Universe, they wanted to cast Jeff Goldblum in a very small role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They offered him a role and thankfully for one reason or another it didn't work out. If he would have taken the part, he may not have been cast in Thor: Ragnarok!
During an interview with Uproxx, Kevin Feige revealed the details:
"And we had come close. I mean, I’ll tell you, I think we spoke to him or offered him a role in Captain America: The First Avenger. I think the role of the senator that was part of that USO tour in the first Captain America film. And he either wasn’t available or wasn’t interested or whatever. And thank goodness, because that would have just been a small thing and instead we got to wait for the Grandmaster, which is about as amazing as a Jeff Goldblum ‘Goldblum-iness’ could be."
Goldblum was amazing in the role of The Grandmaster and no one could have played it as awesomely as he did! He stole every scene that he was in. Audiences are going to flip over his character!
There's no word on if we will ever see The Grandmaster again after his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok. But, he is the brother of The Collector, so hopefully one day they find a way to include him again. He's just such a great character that needs to return!
