It looks like there’s a chance that Jeffrey Dean Morgan might end up reprising his role as Thomas Wayne in DC Entertainment’s The Flash and that he’ll appear as Flashpoint Batman. Morgan previously played the role of Thomas Wayne in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The news comes from The Cinema Spot, which reports, “Jeffrey Dean Morgan is circling the role, but last we heard formal talks have not yet begun; however, that could change at any time according to our sources.”

This isn’t the first time it’s been said that Morgan might be playing Flashpoint Batman. Morgan himself said a few years ago:

"Maybe when [Zack Snyder] cast me that was kind of the goal. Hopefully DC can figure this all out, and in a few years I can come back and do a Flashpoint Batman! I would love it. That would be great.

"I have not had any big discussions with him about [Flashpoint], but I remember when we were in Australia doing Watchmen press, and I was having dinner with Zack or whatever. And he was like, 'My dream is to do the Frank Miller Batman.' And he goes, 'You would be an awesome Batman.' The darker version."

In the DC Flashpoint timeline, Bruce Wayne was the one who died in the alley, not his parents Thomas and Martha. Bruce’s death causes Martha to have a mental breakdown and become the Joker, while Thomas becomes a gun-wielding Batman.

Last year, Morgan said he was still interested in reprising the role, saying:

"Look, I don't know, I mean if there's a chance that would ask me, I'd say yes. I think the Flashpoint story is, it's my favorite story. I would love to do it. But, you know, DC is DC and they're, you know, it's a constant... it seems like they're always kinda switching up who's running it and what they're gonna do. So hopefully, what I'd like to see is a little continuity with DC, have them get on the track, and then, man I'd be honored and love to do it more than anything."

We don’t really know what is being planned for The Flash, but it’s being directed by It director Andy Muschietti, and Ezra Miller is currently set to reprise his role. Muschietti explained that his Flash movie will be a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting.” Most fans assumed that would be the case after all of the changes that have happened with the DC Universe since Justice League was released.

We know that Ben Affleck won’t be coming back to play Batman, so if they want this Flash film to be somewhat connected to the DCEU and have a version of Batman in it, Morgan as Flashpoint Batman should do the trick.

The Flash is currently set for release on July 2, 2022.
