Jeffrey Wright Is in Talks to Join THE BATMAN as Commissioner James Gordon
It looks like Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) will be headed to Gotham City in The Batman. The actor is currently in talks to join the Matt Reeves-directed film, and he will take on the role of Commissioner James Gordon. He will also join Robert Pattinson who is taking on the role of Bruce Wayne.
I like Wright. He’s a solid actor, and it’s not hard to imagine him in the role of Jim Gordon. We don’t have any official details on the story to share with you, but Kevin Smith has said that the film will be inspired by the classic comic book story arc The Long Halloween. We also have an unconfirmed plot synopsis that reads:
The Batman will explore a detective case — when people start dying in strange ways, Batman must go deep into the dark world of Gotham to find clues and solve the mystery/conspiracy connected to Gotham City’s history and criminals. In the film, all of Batman Rogues Gallery are already out there and active, similar to the comics and animated shows/movies. The film will have multiple villains, as they are all suspects.”
This falls in line with the story for The Long Halloween, which was written by Jeph Loeb with artwork by Tim Sale. That comic story arc is set during the early days of Batman's crimefighting career as a killer is murdering people during the holidays. It takes place over the course of a year and includes several of Batman’s rogues gallery of villains.
The Batman is also said to feature Catwoman, Riddler, Firefly, and Penguin, and John David Washington (BlackKklansman) is also said to be wanted for the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face.
The movie is set to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
