Jenna Dewan-Tatum Cast as Lucy Lane in SUPERGIRL
The pilot for the new CBS series Supergirl did not earn high marks from us out of Comic-Con, but it often takes shows a few episodes to get into their groove and carve out a strong identity. Melissa Benoist certainly has the look of Kara/Supergirl down, but will the series end up being any good? We'll find out in a couple of months when the show debuts on CBS on October 26th, but in the meantime, there's casting news to discuss.
THR reports that Jenna Dewan-Tatum, the star of Step Up and Witches of East End, has been cast as Lois Lane's younger sister Lucy on the show. Lucy shows up in the third episode of the series, and is described as "brash, funny and beautiful...strong, smart and successful in her own right. She's got a history with Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and she's come to town to right a previous wrong." That "history" they're referring to is a romantic one — well, as long as they're sticking to the comics as source material.
Peyton List played this character most recently in live-action on The CW's Smallville. (Since that show's run has concluded, List has moved on to The Flash, playing Lisa Snart.) The announcement of Dewan-Tatum's casting comes only a few days after her husband, Channing Tatum, signed his deal to appear in a superhero property of his own. There's no word about how big of a role she'll have in the series, but I assume she'll at least be a recurring cast member. I don't think they wouldn't sign someone like that to appear in only one episode. There's also no word on if Lois Lane will actually make an appearance on the series. The show could treat that character like they plan on treating Superman: reference her, but rarely ever actually show her on screen. We'll have to see how it goes.
