Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell in Talks for SINGLE WHITE FEMALE Remake

Hollywood's remake machine is at it again, and this time, it’s reviving the 1992 psychological thriller Single White Female. Sony and Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures are putting together a fresh take on the cult classic, with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Bones and All actress Taylor Russell currently in negotiations to lead the project.

Single White Female starred Bridget Fonda as a newly single New Yorker who, in an attempt to move on from a breakup, takes in a new roommate, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

What starts as an awkward but seemingly normal living arrangement quickly spirals into a tense and disturbing case of obsession and identity theft. With its mix of psychological tension and unsettling intimacy, the film left an enduring mark on the thriller genre.

Ortega, who has been on a major hot streak, is no stranger to psychological horror and suspense. She gained massive recognition in Netflix’s Wednesday and followed that up with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

This year alone, she has Death of a Unicorn , Hurry Up Tomorrow, and Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Klara and the Sun, where she’ll share the screen with Amy Adams.

Russell, meanwhile starred in Trey Edward SchultsWaves, followed by Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All, where she held her own alongside Timothée Chalamet.

She also starred in Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot and has two major projects on the horizon that include the sci-fi thriller Hope and the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair with Michael B. Jordan.

No director is attached to the project that there’s no word yet on how closely this new version will follow the original or if it’ll take the premise in a different direction.
