Jennifer Connelly's SNOWPIERCER Series Officially Gets The Greenlight at TNT

TNT has officially ordered a full season of the upcoming Snowpiercer series with Jennifer Connelly. I'm actually excited about this show. It's based on the French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette. Director Bong Joon-ho previously adapted it into a film, which turned out to be really freakin' good.

I'm not only a fan of the story, but I'm a fan of Jennifer Connelly, and it will be great to see her in a series like this. She will play a character named Melanie Cavill, "a First Class passenger who works as the Voice of the Train – responsible for making the daily announcements over its PA system. Though many in her VIP position are dismissive of the lower class passengers, Melanie is curiously fascinated by them."

The story is set seven years after an apocalyptic ice age leaves Earth as a frozen wasteland, and the story will focus on the survivors who “inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe.”

The pilot episode of the upcoming series is being helmed by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. The show also stars Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), who plays Layton Well, “a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats, Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train.”

Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT had this to say in a statement:

“I’m a personal fan of Bong Joon Ho’s epic film, and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast. Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride.”

Are you looking forward to this series?
