Jennifer Coolidge Says She'd Love to Play Her WHITE LOTUS Character Tanya McQuoid in a Prequel Series
If you haven’t seen the second season of The White Lotus, this is your warning not to proceed. Now that we have that out of the way, we can move on.
The first season of HBO’s hit drama The White Lotus was intended to be a one-off limited series, but with the fan and critic response, its creator, Mike White, was approached by the network and was offered another season. He cranked another star-studded story out, and will do yet another, but the one holdover from the first anthology season, beside the name of the international resort itself, was Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress Jennifer Coolidge’s character, Tanya McQuoid. But Season 2 saw the end of her story, as she was sadly killed off.
At last week’s premiere of her new action rom-com, Shotgun Wedding, Coolidge expressed to Variety that she would love to return to play Tanya McQuoid again in a possible prequel, but she says she needs help from the fans, and even her fellow actors and reporters on the red carpet. She said:
“For me, I think it looks like I’m a whiner or something.”
But when the interviewer asked her about returning for a prequel, she said:
“If you can get that going… You’re going to run into [White], I know you are. Tell him.”
She talked about her response upon hearing about Tanya’s demise:
“I said, ‘Do I really have to be killed?’ And [White] said, ‘Yes, it’s over, Jennifer.’”
Coolidge gladly reported that her gay fans have been approaching and singing the dance remix of her now iconic line, “These gays, they’re trying to murder me.”
“At a lot of these nighclubs, it’s the last song of the night.”
I would absolutely watch a prequel series centered around Coolidge’s Tanya. But at least, if nothing else, Coolidge has achieved a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her performance, and a line remixed into a song, so if it all stops there, it was a pretty great ride.
