Jennifer Lawrence Reportedly Meets With Kevin Feige as Marvel Return Rumors Heat Up
Could Jennifer Lawrence be making her way back to Marvel? The former Mystique actress has reportedly met with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, raising the possibility that the Oscar-winning star could have a future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Lawrence recently had a meeting with Feige, although there's no word on what the two discussed. It could have been about a potential MCU role, or it might have been nothing more than a general conversation.
For now, it's just a rumor, and neither Marvel Studios nor Lawrence has confirmed anything. Still, with the X-Men preparing to join the MCU, the timing certainly makes things interesting.
Lawrence previously played the shape-shifting mutant Mystique in Fox's X-Men: First Class in 2011. She returned for X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix, which brought her run as the character to an end.
Despite leaving the franchise behind, Lawrence had plenty of positive things to say about her final experience playing Mystique, particularly working with director Simon Kinberg on Dark Phoenix.
She previously said: "Acting-wise, it was the best experience I’ve had [on these films]. [Simon Kinberg has] been writing these characters for so long, and he knows them so deeply. I suddenly felt more connected to my character than I ever have been before."
She also appreciated how smoothly the production came together. "It was unrecognisable. Everything was on time. Everything was organised. These movies have always been fun amidst chaos, and now they were fun with no chaos."
Marvel Studios is currently moving toward a new era for its mutants, with director Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts*, taking charge of the upcoming X-Men reboot.
Before that happens, the MCU is expected to close out its Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will feature familiar faces from the original X-Men films. That leaves plenty of room for Marvel to bring back other actors from Fox's mutant franchise before introducing its next generation of heroes.
Of course, Lawrence returning as Mystique isn't the only possibility. Marvel could bring her into the MCU as an entirely different character, giving her a fresh start in the superhero genre. There's also the chance that her reported meeting with Feige had absolutely nothing to do with Marvel.
As for the upcoming X-Men reboot, the film will reportedly feature Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Asa Germann as Angel, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier.
The reported cast also includes Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury, one of the identities used by Mister Sinister. There's also speculation that Apocalypse could become the next major villain for the MCU following the Multiverse Saga.
Whether Lawrence is actually interested in returning to the Marvel universe remains a mystery, but seeing her back as Mystique could be fun, especially with Marvel bringing its mutant characters together under one roof.
The untitled X-Men reboot is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
