Jennifer Lopez Drug Lord True Crime Drama THE GODMOTHER Finds Its Writer and Director
Director Reed Morano, who has directed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, as well as the films I Think We’re Alone Now and The Rhythm Section, is currently in talks to direct the upcoming true crime story, The Godmother, in which Jennifer Lopez will play “real-life notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco aka ‘The Godmother’.” William Monahan, who wrote The Departed, Edge of Darkness, and The Gambler, is in talks to re-write the screenplay.
Here’s the synopsis for The Godmother from Deadline:
The Lopez-fronted The Godmother follows the ups and downs of Blanco, who outsmarted and outhustled the men around her to rise from an impoverished childhood in Colombia to become one of the world’s biggest drug lords. She reportedly was worth more than $2 billion, and was a key figurehead in Miami’s bloody Cocaine Cowboy Wars.
This would be a fantastic directing and writing team. I’m interested in this true story, and I think Lopez will do a great job in the role. Are you intrigued?
