Jennifer Lopez to Star in Adaptation of the Broadway Musical KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN
Jennifer Lopez has found her next film project, and it’s an adaptation of the Broadway musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. Bill Condon (Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast) is set to direct the film with Barry Josephson (Enchanted) producing.
The musical is based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, which was originally adapted as a stage play in 1983. Not long after that, in 1985, there was a film adaptation starring William Hurt. Puig's novel was then adapted into a musical of the same name by John Kander and Fred Ebb, the team behind Chicago and Cabaret in 1993.
The musical centers on two prisoners, “Luis Molina, a gay window dresser serving time for corrupting a minor, and Valentin Arregui, a captured revolutionary. Molina takes comfort in a fantasy vampy diva named Aurora, whom he discusses with Valentin as their relationship grows and takes on new dimensions.” Lopez is set to play the role of Aurora.
Producers of the film are currently on the hunt for an unknown actress to take on the role of Molina.
