Jeremy Allen White Opens Up About Voicing Rotta the Hutt in THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU

Jeremy Allen White has officially joined the Star Wars universe, and it turns out his work as Rotta the Hutt might not be finished yet. The Bear star recently confirmed that he’s voicing Jabba the Hutt’s son in the upcoming live-action film The Mandalorian and Grogu, and even he didn’t realize at first just how big of a deal his character would be.

Speaking with Good Morning America, White revealed that voicing Rotta has been a surprisingly evolving process.

“I came in to do the voice. They hadn’t filmed the movie yet. Then they made the movie, I came and did more,” White said. “I’ll probably have to do a little bit more. I spoke to Pedro [Pascal] the other day, and I think he was doing some more work, and seeing more of the film.”

White explained how The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau brought him into the fold, saying, “I met Jon Favreau, and I’ve been such a huge fan of his for a long time. He said would you like to come in and maybe talk to me about doing just a voice over for Star Wars. I said, ‘I love Star Wars.’”

At first, White wasn’t entirely sure who Rotta the Hutt even was. “I discovered kind of in the moment almost the weight of the kind of character I was voicing,” he admitted.

Rotta, also known as “Stinky,” made his debut in 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where he was kidnapped by Count Dooku and later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.

In The Mandalorian and Grogu, the character is all grown up and reportedly built like a prize fighter, a very different Hutt than the sluggish crime lord fans remember.

White added that the experience has been “a fun process” and shared how much he’s looking forward to seeing it with his family. “I’m very excited to take my kids to see that one. I think it’s gonna be really fun.”

According to the film’s official synopsis, The Mandalorian and Grogu picks up after the fall of the Empire as Imperial warlords continue to threaten the galaxy. The New Republic turns to Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu for help restoring order.

Alongside Pedro Pascal and Jeremy Allen White, the cast features Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic colonel and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial warlord.

With Rotta the Hutt making his live-action debut, fans are interested to see how this unexpected addition to the Star Wars lore fits into the story.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026, and it maybe Jeremy Allen White’s journey in the Star Wars universe is just getting started.
