Actor Jeremy Davies (Saving Private Ryan, Justified) has joined the cast of director Scott Derrickson’s film The Black Phone. Derrickson, who wrote the Sinister films as well as The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Doctor Strange, co-wrote the script for the film with C. Robert Cargill and Graham Clegg, based on the original short story by Joe Hill.

The synopsis for the short story reads:

John Finney is locked in a basement that’s stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is an antique telephone, long since disconnected, but which rings at night with calls from the dead…

This sounds like a super dark and creepy story. If you’re into that sort of thing, the project sounds like it’s in good hands. Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum for Blumhouse are producing the film. Universal and Blumhouse will present the Crooked Highway production. Joe Hill is an executive producer. Have you read the story? Are you looking forward to the adaptation?
