Jeremy Renner Will Play Reporter David Armstrong Who Helped Expose The Sackler Family's Ties To Opioid Epidemic

Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner is set to play Pulitzer-winning investigative reporter David Armstrong in an upcoming film project. Armstrong is the reporter who helped expose the Sackler family’s ties to the U.S. opioid epidemic.

The untitled biopic comes from Hell or High Water producer Julie Yorn and it will be written and directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly will write and direct the as-yet-untitled project.

It’s explained that “In a series of articles based on secret emails and documents, Armstrong helped reveal how the Sackler family had been involved in the aggressive marketing of Purdue’s painkiller OxyContin, which contributed to the national opioid epidemic that has killed more than 450,000 Americans over the past two decades. He exposed how Purdue co-chairman and president Richard Sackler backed a company plan to mislead doctors about the strength of the drug.”

The story of the Sackler’s involvement with opioids was all covered in the Hulu limited series Dopesick, but this project will tell it from a different point of view from the guy who exposed them.
