Jerry Bruckheimer Says NATIONAL TREASURE 3 Script Is Really Good and He Will Get It to Nicolas Cage Soon
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been working on developing National Treasure 3 for Disney. In a recent interview, he reveals that a script is being worked on, it really good, and they will get it to Nicolas Cage soon.
Bruckheimer says he hopes the sequel gets made and says "we're working on the script right now. Hopefully [Cage] likes it, but it's really good. So I think we'll get it to him shortly."
This project is separate from the TV series that is being developed for Disney+. While that series is connected to the film universe, this sequel would obviously put a focus on Cage’s character Benjamin Franklin Gates. Earlier this year, the actor was asked if there would be a National Treasure 3 during a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" Q&A, Cage answered: "No, the priority was to turn it into a TV show so I would say probably not."
When previously asked about it in an interview with GQ Cage said: "The phone stopped ringing. It was like, 'What do you mean we're not doing National Treasure 3? It's been 14 years, why not. Well, Sorcerer's Apprentice didn't work, and Ghost Rider didn't really sell tickets. And Drive Angry just came and went."
Things have obviously changed since then. This is the first confirmation that we’ve had that National Treasure 3 is actually in development, and Cage is going to be getting that call soon.
The creators have hoped to get Cage to show up in the Disney+ series and co-creator Marianne Wibberley said: "We're going to beg and plead and whatever. We'll have him in two seconds. He's our favorite actor out of everyone. We pitched him as Ben Gates before he was Ben Gates. He was our first choice."
I don’t expect to see Cage show up in that series, but we’ll see. I’m much more excited about a new movie. I enjoy the National Treasure films!
